[ Strata Kitchen & Culinary ]

Strata (n.): A plural of "stratum", meaning layers. More specifically in the architectural design, but in food & flavors as well. Strata Kitchen & Culinary is a project that explores how new architecture can complement an existing urban context. Designed as a culinary school and public restaurant in Norman, Oklahoma, the project emphasizes transparency, sustainability, and community. Strata is rooted in deep respect for Oklahoma's environment and local climate. Through strategically placed trees, double façades, and careful orientation, nothing is sacrificed. Transparency further plays a role at Strata as well. Floor-to-ceiling glazing all around the student wing allows passersby to catch a glimpse of the culinary craft, sparking curiosity and inviting the surrounding community into the experience. Furthermore, the open Bistro & kitchen concept allows guests to not only dine but become part of the process. Strata is designed to bring students, visitors, and the surrounding community together in an environment where education, sustainability, and connection converge. [ Spring 2025 ]
