My first year as an architecture student marked my introduction to the fundamentals of architectural design, representation, and exploration. Through these first-ever projects, I began exploring different ways to translate my ideas through physical model making, drafting, and abstraction, all while learning the basic processes of architectural design. [ 01 ] Special No. 8 - Interpretation & Continuation Beginning with Georgia O’Keeffe’s Special No. 8 composition, I studied the work and divided the original drawing by folding it in half. From this fragmented starting point, I then continued the work using charcoal on paper, translating the forms and movements of O’Keeffe’s original drawing through my own personal interpretation. The final study presents the original work alongside my own interpretation, highlighting the transformation of abstraction and continuation. [ 02 ] Casa Malaparte, Adalberto Libera - Representation Being introduced to the fundamentals of architectural representation through the analysis of an existing precedent, I closely examined Adalberto Libera’s 1937 project, Casa Malaparte, located on the Isle of Capri. Through this analysis, I recreated drawings by hand on vellum, as well as made a physical model using wood and metal, incorporating soldered metal components. Through this process, I learned the basics and conventions of architectural drawing and model making. [ Fall 2023 - Spring 2024 ]
